Bangalore City is the first city to have a Commissionerate in the State of Karnataka. Earlier Bangalore
City was being looked after by two Officers of the rank of Superintendent of Police and
the districts were called Bangalore North and South. The Commissionerate of Police, with
Commissioner as the head of Bangalore City Police, was established in 1963. |

Five Officers of the rank of Superintendents of Police designated as Deputy Commissioners of Police assisted the Commissioner of Police when the Commissionerate started. The city consisted of 37 Police Stations at that time. Today, an officer of the rank of Additional Director General of Police heads the force as Commissioner of Police, assisted by two Joint Commissioners of Police of the rank of Inspector General of Police, two Additional Commissioners of Police of the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police and 15 Superintendent of Police. At present, there are 87 Police Stations including one "All Woman Police Station". |
