The West Zone of Bangalore city comprises of commercial and residential areas.  Every type of activity of a metropolis can be seen here. This zone covers an area of 61.30 sq.kms. Chickpet, Balepet are busy commercial areas where gold, silver and garment shops are located. Gandhinagar, which houses a majority of film producers, distributors and theatres comes under  this zone.

The prominent institutions like National Law School of India University (NLSUI), Campus of Bangalore  University, Institute of Social and Economic Change (ISEC) and Sports Authority of India (SAI) are situated in this zone.

The residential areas of Basaveshwaranagar, Vijayanagar, Chandra Layout are located in this zone. Important places of worship like Temples, Mosques and Churches are located in this zone. 

There are three Assistant Commissioners of police in this zone with their headquarters at Chickpet, Vijaynagar and  Cottonpet (Kengeri Gate).

The participation of citizens along with the police in patrolling has resulted in a phenomenal decrease in crime in this zone. This zone has enrolled 1874 citizens as members of Neighbourhood Watch Scheme and 192 as Special Police Officers.
