Bangalore, the Garden City of India has a number of Scientific, Technical, Commercial and Educational Institutions. Bangalore with a population of 60 lakh and floating population of 5-8 lakh, is drawing people from different cities of India and countries in the world. The City is growing perpetually in all directions. With the advent of urbanization, people are loosing contact even with their immediate neighbours. No doubt, urbanization has increased the standard of living but it has also brought cannot take place frequently in villages and towns because of good and closely knitted neighborhood as citizens come to the rescue of their neighbours in case of need as there is better understanding and neighbourly feeling amongst them.

In a city like Bangalore, criminals are taking advantage of anonymity and lack of proper neighbourhood feeling. Now, a good and self supporting neighbourhood has become a necessity for safety and security. Hence neighbourhood watch scheme was introduced in Bangalore City by the Police. As a step further, a new scheme called " Hello Neighbour " movement is being introduced by the Banglaore Police, all over Bangalore City.

OBJECTIVES OF " HELLO NEIGHBOUR " SCHEME

1. To know each other well amongst neighbours

2. To make advantage of having friends

3. To share common problems

4. To live cohesively

5. To share the joy of knowing each other irrespective of community, religion, race, creed, gender, economic status, etc.

6. To build a " Hello Neighbour " commune in your locality.

7. To have a nice feeling of LIVE AND LET LIVE

8. To have Happiness in commune living in your locality, ablest in the road your live.

9. To help each other in good and bad times.

And many more advantages!

HOW TO ACHIEVE ?
1. Know your neighbour, old or new, call on them and introduce yourselves.

2. If you are an old timer in the locality, call on the new neighbour, take initiative.

3. If you are a new settler, call on the old timers, take initiative.

4. Exchange pleasantries, may be flowers or gifts or kind words.

5. Greet each other whenever you meet in the streets or otherwise.

6. Try to know each other well, profession, family, general interest etc.

7. Have special greetings exchanged during festivals irrespective of religion or creed.

8. Take initiative to form a Hello Neighbour Club in your locality or neighbourhood.

9. Start with a small group of neighbours and encourage other to join in.

10. Share your common problems and try to solve it.

11. Make a list of residential and commercial premises in your locality.

12. Collect the names of your neighbours.

13. If you find any suspicious activity, report to the nearest Police Station or to the Police Control Room (Tel.No. 100) or 2250373.

14. Keep watch for strangers in your locality.

15. Have good rapport with your local Police Officers and beat committee members.

16. Your life will be better, happier tomorrow if you know your neighbours well.
