Bangalore city has a
grid network of roads with unusually large number of intersections. It
is at the intersection that the delays are felt. Thus the congestion
Is felt in most parts of Central Bangalore. To alleviate the
situation, one way has been contemplated. This will reduce the number
of cross movements at the junctions, which in other words means
reduction in time taken for traffic to traverse the junctions. Apart
from this, there is need to introduce traffic management schemes which
are low cost and which will become the basis of future infrastructure
projects.

' Speed will
increase with One ways '
Although there is a tendency for speeds to increase with
unidirectional traffic flow, over speeding will be checked by
integrating the signals in the network to provide green phase only for
those who travel at a speed of 40 km/hr. Strict action will be taken
against over speeding by using speed radar guns etc.

-
' Initially only the
first phase of the One Way System will be in place, but later phases
there will be more chaos '
This is unrealistic. One Way System, as contemplated, is an integrated
system. Each phase is complementary to the other.

- Infrastructure like mini Passovers,
parking lots, should be completed before thinking of one ways.
All these engineering works go simultaneously with the
introduction of one ways. Infrastructure will be developed in harmony
with the proposed one ways and that will further enhance the overall
system.
